So do not just blame the Chinese, this oldtimer market is tempting to a lot of parties not just the premium quality ones.

Generally Don I don't think when I read the many many posts people are really blaming the Chinese. I am not. The blame has to rest with the company who is the commissioner for ensuring the same quality control practices are used wherever the part is made.

As Ford, Mercedes and now talk of JaguarLandRover building cars in China I would still be looking at them to maintain the quality.

Putting greed/corruption etc to one side actually intermediate companies do exist that will act as agents for maintaining part quality in these countries where it is not appropriate to have ones own staff of engineers.

OK it will put the part cost up, but a small increase to the end user and a large saving by the vendor on scrap/returns/goodwill may just be a better answer.

As for the Made in Britain dizzy points not sure what company in UK is still manufacturing these small components even the Lucas parts are now made in China under licence.

Working for Ford nearly 20 years ago and travelling to Detroit regularly I watched the growth in Chinese products in the large US stores, gradually it crept into the UK stores and in the last 5 years I have seen it grow in the French big chain stores.

The one big difference in France is getting the faulty goods exchanged, they even argue that you can't as the box has been opened.........honestly I am not exagerating....................

We have just been reading that great names like Purina and Felix cat foods have been making animals violently sick and kidney failure............all since the production was moved to China, childrens toys are continually being found to have lead still in the paint, and then there was the recent milk scare products that caused infants deaths, that company director I believe eventually faced the firing squad and was executed.

This again is not a China bashing the French company director who used industrial silicone for womens implants hoping to make extra profits he has been jailed so the corrupt ones are around they will never go what needs to be eliminated is the careless ones.

However the last few years have also seen in the UK excessive chemical burns on forearms and legs from leather sofa's again leather sourced from China. Chemicals used in the tanning/dye process

There is just a lot of care and consideration needed when deciding to buy or use Made in China or Made in the Peoples Republic of China which includes other associated countries and whilst Aston Martin's problem was only the accelerator pedal breaking it is still frightening to think well what if it had been the brake pedal.

I think the best advice has probably been given............ask before buy....................inspect before you fit.................tell everyone when you spot 'suspect quality' again it does not have to be a vendor bashing just let others know.
