Tips for Sublimation Paper

  • Sublimation paper is made specifically to transfer the sublimation ink to your garment, fabric or other surface by way of a heat press. (A home iron doesn’t get hot enough nor will it cover the full area so the image is transferred evenly; we’ll discuss that in a later topic)
  • While you may have heard you can use copy paper, this is not recommended. Copy paper can bleed or transfer the ink inconsistently, and you don’t want to waste your expensive ink like that.
  • Using high quality paper DOES make a difference in color and quality.
  • Colors may look OFF or MUTED until pressed. That’s OK and completely normal.

What is the best sublimation paper for dark shirts?

This is a trick question of sorts. You really cannot sublimate on a dark shirt. The best example I have is you can’t dye black hair, another color. Sublimating works just like that, so in order to sublimate on dark shirts, you MUST use sublimation ink and another material.

While it isn’t possible to sublimate dark colors directly, you can if you use white glitter HTV. Another way to sublimate on dark colors would be to use Siser EasySubli HTV or Flexi-Print.
