The tables we produce, commonly called "decorated ceramic tables" are actually made of slabs of natural stone of volcanic origin.
However, don't be misleaded: our tables are the real and original Deruta tables, handcrafted by expert artists.
We use a Volcanic Stone as "body" of our tables (and also countertops, coverings, etc.) because it is very strong and resistant to atmospheric agents, temperature changes and breakage.

What is lava stone?

Unlike classical ceramics, this magmatic stone is not a dough, but a slab of natural stone extracted directly from the volcanic quarries.
To make tables, kitchen tops, coverings and panels (also suitable for walking on), we use the lava stone from Etna volcano in Sicily and the volcanic stone from Lazio quarries, also called "peperino". Both stones are extracted from old solidified lava flows. The selection of the best stone slabs is done personally by our production team, directly in the quarries.

After a firts firing at about 1000°C to remove any possible impurities, the stone is glazed qith ceramic glazes, hand painted and fired again at the same temperature, that is the temperature ceramic colors needs to melt and be fixed. The final product
is water proof, frost proof, heat proof (-40°C / +1000°C), resists salty air and any other atmospheric agents, it is shock and scratch resistant and does not request any maintenance.
It is a lasting beauty that is almost eternal.

To complete the information we also would like to mention that there availabe on the market tables made of decorated terracotta, that is a clay dough, which however have less resistance to frost and shocks compared to tables made of volcanic stone.
