Where to Place Wall Mount Faucets?

11 Dec.,2023

Recently I got a wall mount faucet for my washroom. And I decided to install it myself as well.

Even after going throughout the whole installation guide, I did not find where to place wall mount faucets.

After thorough research, I found that the most optimal height of installation is 6-8 inches above the countertop. Alongside that, maintaining the height above the sink’s flood level and the alignment is necessary as well – or else, you won’t be placing it right.

But don’t worry, and this article contains all information regarding wall mount faucets and its placement. Alongside that, it also provides the initial steps of installation.

What Is a Wall Mount Faucet?

A wall mount faucet is one that is placed on the wall above the sink. In this case, the water supply is behind the wall itself, and proper connection establishment is required before installation for perfect execution.

Wall-mount faucets are highly preferred due to their modern design and convenience. They also save a lot of space and are easier to handle in general. A better overview will be provided with the pros and cons of wall mount faucets.

Where to Place Wall Mount Faucets?

Now, the real question is, where should you place wall-mount faucets? Well, it can be rather confusing for just about anyone, so here is an elaboration on that so you can place it in the perfect spot.

Height Above the Countertop

The countertop is basically where the basin is placed. So make sure that the faucet is at least 6-8 inches above the countertop itself – that is, from the base of the sink.

This will provide more space between the sink and the faucet. And as a result, you will find more flexibility when using the faucet itself. Or else, there won’t be much space when you use the faucet.

Height Above the Sink

When we say above the sink, we mean above the highest level of the sink – also known as the flood level. Make sure the faucet is placed 3-4 inches higher.

You can also keep it lower if you want. But make sure not to increase the height – as it might result in a lot of unnecessary splashing.

Alignment

Now you need to make sure the faucet is placed right in the middle of the basin.

For that, you can measure the sink and then temporarily mark it on the wall.

Make sure to find the middle point of the line – and that’s where you will place the faucet.

Other Considerations

Check the area around the point of installation. If there are any accessories or decor that might be ruined due to the installation, then reconsider. For instance, if you have decorations right above the sink, then you will need to break it to install the faucet.

Wall Mount Faucet Installation Guide

Installing a wall-mount faucet can be quite difficult to execute by oneself. But if you are determined and have the proper instructions, then you can go through with it, no doubt.

And so, I will be providing the instructions here −

Gather the Tools

For this task, you will need water pipes, soldering supplies, screws, drill, pipe straps, measuring tape, shut-off valves, torpedo level, 2 x 4 blocking cross members, and finally, a suitable wall mount faucet.

Connect the Water Supply Pipes

If you are just replacing a wall-mount faucet, then you can skip this step.

Otherwise, you should connect the water supply pipes using the soldering supplies. Make sure all the water supply pipes are in contact with each other – and then use soldering supplies to connect them together. This will ensure proper water flow.

Install the Shut-Off Valves

Now, install the shut-off valves in each of the supply lines. Make sure to put them in a location that you will be able to access whenever required. For more details on the location, you can check the instruction manual of your faucet.

Or, you can simply place it in a way that does not interfere with the water pipes but is also accessible.

Attach the Blocking Cross Member

Now, after you have determined the height at which the faucet will be placed, you need to attach the blocking cross member there.

Make sure to read through the faucet instructions to determine how far behind it will be.

Attach the Valve Body

Now, attach the valve body to the blocking cross member using the torpedo level. The torpedo level will make sure the cross member is tightened properly to the valve body. However, do make sure that you are attaching the valve body in the right spot.

Connect the Water

Once you are done installing the water lines, it is time to connect the lines to the valve body. You can secure the pipes using the straps and then check for leaks.

Repair the Wall

Now, mount the faucet on the wall according to the instructions provided with it. And then close the wall.

To wrap up, it will take a certain level of determination and expertise to go through with the process. If you find yourself lost, then you can hire a plumber for the process.
