I would like to use 3/4" PP pipe to construct a wet boom on my Hagie sprayer. I have found a source for the pipe and I know there are fittings like those from Banjo. Can PP pipe be threaded easily or can some type of fitting be glued to the end that goes from a butt end to threaded? Can I use a dye by hand, or do I need any special equipment?

Here is the pipe I am looking at:

Thanks for the help!

I purchased the same pipe to convert my Spra-Coupe to a wet boom. Dad gave me a Rigid manual pipe threader many years ago. The 3/4" die is wore out so I purchased new inserts that are designed for poly pipe only. Should start threading next week to see how it goes. Read that a "new" die for regular pipe will not cut clean but rather tears the material away. Steve sprayertech

It can be threaded. Arag sells fitting that slide over end and seal it.

25psi is not very much. BradV1234

I use PVC and it treads real good and it stands up to most chemicals. And you can use a hand threader. I use a RIDGED set Colorblind

I did this on a sprayer a couple years ago. Got rid of the dry boom set up and bought all new poly pipe. I used a standard pipe thread cutter that used to belong to my grandfather (he plumbed almost this whole farm with that cutter). It worked great. I had no issues with tearing threads and had no leaky fittings once finished.

Edit: After looking at your link I see it's only rated to 25 psi and only sold in 10' pieces. FEI Inc. is where I bought mine and was able to get 20' sticks (lengths i needed for each of my boom sections). They are pretty local to me so it was easy to go pick it up.

Good point about the psi. The previous link (listed beliw) shows a much higher rating. I can work with 10' peices as long as I can easily thread or couple it to another piece.

I have often threaded poly pipe successfully, many sizes. I use silicone spray for lubricant while threading. You have to be careful not to cut threads too far or your fitting will bottom out on the pipe before it's tight. That mistake can be somewhat remedied with LOTS of pipe tape. I normally use #6 pipe dope (gray) to seal/lubricate the fittings when tightening.

I checked out the Arag website. How do those fasten down or seal? I have not been around that type. Thanks steve c-il

Amazon has them now

Found out about them on Rigid's help forum. Steve exit

I think it is just a push-lock system... We are getting a few in as samples to try out. I have looked at the CAD models, they have an oring inside with something that looks similar to a pushlock system. steve c-il

I guess PSI raings were a typo .

Sorry the "Not recommend for 25 or above PSI" is a typo. I have submitted forms to my purchasing department to get that corrected. It is rated for 270 PSI. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Have a good day,

Make sure you are using sch. 80 pvc to thread instead of sch 40. 80 works great!
