On June 11, the Energy Bureau of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region announced the official launch of a compensation scheme for new energy storage capacity. Under the policy, projects completed and commissioned by the end of 2025 will be eligible for compensation at a rate of RMB 0.35 per kilowatt-hour. The compensation will be granted for a period of 10 years from the date the standard takes effect.

In March, the bureau issued a notice aimed at accelerating the development of new energy storage. The policy stipulates that independently operated energy storage facilities included in the regional development plan will receive compensation based on the amount of electricity discharged to the grid. The compensation rate will be updated annually and announced by the end of September for the following year. Once set, each year's rate will remain in effect for 10 years.

In May, Inner Mongolia Power (Group) Co., Ltd. and State Grid Eastern Inner Mongolia Electric Power Co., Ltd. made compensation payments totaling nearly RMB 100 million to qualified independent energy storage facilities, in line with the new policy.

According to the Energy Bureau, the implementation of this compensation scheme is expected to accelerate the scale-up of energy storage infrastructure in the region and foster innovation and practical deployment of advanced storage technologies.
