Hi, My house is 21 yrs. old and there's a skylight in my kitchen. It's got a crank handle on it. Unfortunately, it's way too high to reach unless we bring up the tall ladder.
I've been searching for something that would let me open it but all I can find is telescoping rods and none of them look like they would work on the crank handle. I don't know who the manufacturer of the window is.
does anyone have any suggestions or product names that I should be looking into?
thanks, Laurie

The more popular brands are Andersen, Velux, Pella, etc.
You would usually remove the hand crank handle if it has one, (very easy) and replace it with a type of attachment that looks like a D ring. This ring accepts a telescopic hook that you can easily turn.
There are different types. Your first step is to try to find out what brand you have, or at least remove the hand crank. From there you can tell what system will fit and go from there.
I have 3 skylights on a 14' ceiling. they are Andersen's. I have motorized cranks on them, along with a rain sensor that automatically closes them when it rains. It is nice just to press a button and they open and close. Good luck!

D-ring.. Is that what its called? I bought a telescopic rod with a hook on the end of it a couple of years ago, but had no way to hook it up on the crank so I never used it. Do you know where I could look at or buy a D ring online?
My old crank handle, which fell off by the way.. just slipped on and then there was a tiny little screw that was tightened to hold it in place, so I'd need to find a part that would attach the same way.

In this house? We'd lose the remote to open the skylight..I'd love to have an electric opener installed butThanks for that website.. it's exactly what I was looking for.But now I'm not sure whether I'd be better off with a hex or the eyelet opener. I'm going to show it to my husband and see what he says about it. But, at least now I know what everything is called for when I do go to the store.
