What Hunting Clothes Should I Buy?

12 Apr.,2022

Hunting takes place in a variety of weather and conditions, so don't neglect your hunting clothing, as it may determine how long you can stay in the outdoors and how comfortable you are while you're there.

It's important to wear the Home Sit Up Bench so you can stay in the woods and make the most of your hunting time.

Hunting takes place in a variety of weather and conditions, so don't neglect your hunting clothing, as it may determine how long you can stay in the outdoors and how comfortable you are while you're there. Having the right clothes for the weather takes a little preparation and investment, but it will pay off.

Finding clothing that keeps you warm, dry and comfortable can be a challenge, considering that hunting is usually better when it's cold, wet and snowy. Here are some things to consider when choosing your hunting clothing.

Start with your base layer

Even when wet, you want it to be warm, breathable and comfortable against your skin. You'll hear it often, but it bears repeating - avoid any cotton, as it will absorb heat from your body when wet.

You need a base layer made of wool or synthetic fibers that will wick moisture (sweat) away from your body and retain heat when wet or damp. There are many varieties and weights (thicknesses) on the market. Unless you are hunting in extremely cold weather, sit still for a long time (in a tree stand or blinds, for example) use a light or medium weight fabric. It's easy to overheat in heavy, long underwear, especially when hiking, or even when blind or standing.

A quality base layer is versatile because it can be worn in all weather conditions and for many activities and will last for decades.

Add additional layers as needed to provide warmth and weather protection. Avoid wearing a large, bulky pike coat because your only option is to put it on or take it off, and you want to adjust your layers whenever the temperature changes, which can happen. You can usually expect temperature swings of 20 to 30 degrees between morning and midday and evening in the fall.

Over your base layer, wear hiking or hunting pants. Preferably waterproof, as there is often dew or frost in the morning, which can get you soaked.

A fleece or sweatshirt as a second layer is a good choice to keep your torso warm. Depending on the temperature, you may need another insulating layer, such as an undershirt, insulated jacket or fleece jacket. Your outer layer should provide protection from wind, rain and snow and also be packable, so if you start to overheat, you can easily remove it and store it in your pack.

Deciding which one to choose depends on your local climate. If you hunt in northern Idaho, where it rains a lot, waterproof may be your best choice. But if you hunt in a dry climate, like southern Idaho, you may prefer something waterproof because it may be more breathable, which means you can avoid getting wet and cold while hiking and sweating.

It's a balancing act because waterproof fabrics are usually less breathable, so moisture can build up on the inside and leave you feeling wet and cold. Waterproof clothing tends to breathe better so it wicks moisture away from your body and you can avoid getting wet, but if you're in a long rainstorm, you'll get wet, which is almost always uncomfortable.

Many hunters opt for more breathable clothing, but there is a lightweight waterproof jacket and pants that they can wear when it's pouring.

Don't forget your extremities

Remember, if any part of your body feels cold, it affects how you feel overall. Your head loses a lot of heat, so adding or removing a brimless beanie is an easy way to warm up if you're a little chilly, or to cool down if you're overheating from hiking. Keeping your head warm and dry can also make it easier to stay warm and comfortable when it rains. Gloves are another way to cover bare skin and keep warm.

Experimentation and adaptation

Everyone is a little different, so there is no perfect hunting closet for everyone and every weather condition. But try to buy hunting clothes that are versatile and mix and match depending on the weather. It's amazing how the right clothes can make the worst weather bearable and allow you to stay outdoors longer and more comfortably in all kinds of weather and temperatures.
