Creating a Smart View in the Grade Center

24 Feb.,2023

Topic Overview

Smart Views are focused views of the Grade Center. Any number of Smart Views can be created based on a variety of criteria, including Grading Periods, Categories, and Performance. Smart Views can be added to the Grade Center section of the Control Panel, so they can be accessed easily. To add a Smart View as a Favorite, click the star icon in the Add as Favorite column.

NOTE

In the Grade Center section of the Control Panel, Smart Views appear as an indented list under Full Grade Center.

For example, you can create a smart view of the grade center that will show only a subset of a group of students within the class.

Steps

Go to the Control Panel > Full Grade Center.

In the Grade Center, Under the Manage menu, go to Smart Views. This will take you to the list of the views and you will see the default lists already created by the system.

Click on the Create Smart View to set up a new smart view.

Go to the Manage menu → Smart Views.

Select the Create Smart Views Button

  1. Name your Smart View (You can name it after the child section)
  2. Add a description if necessary
  3. Select Add as Favorite - this will make it appear under Full Grade Center
  4. In Type of View, select Custom
  5. Select the dropdown and choose Child Course ID from the list and enter the first Child Course ID you copied from the main Grade Center.
  6. Choose All Columns in the dropdown for Filter Results.
  7. Select Submit

Repeat for as many sections that you have merged in this course.

Once the Smart Views are created, you will see it under Full Grade Center on the left-hand side of the screen.

*When you click on that Smart View, you will only see the students from that Child Course. You can now email from the Grade Center directly to that specific group.

In this example, a smart view is being created to show just the students in a particular section of a course that a TA would create so only those students could be viewed when accessing the smart view. The smart view can be made a quick favorite link under the control panel by clicking on the "favorite" star.
