Installing Your Corner Guards

Finish the Corner Guard with paint or stain. (Test stain on the inside.)

If you have the old-style base moulding which comes 8 to 12 inches up the wall, mount the bottom of the Corner Guard on top of the base moulding. With newer base moulding, you may wish to leave a 4 to 5 inch gap between the base and the bottom of your Corner Guard.

Mount your Corner Guards with eightpenny finishing nails. (Predrill pilot holes, as described below). These may seem large, but they must extend through the wall system to the stud. Although glue may be easier and faster, it will dry out in time, and likely, the Corner Guards will pop off the corner with a sharp bump. Nails also allow for cleaner removal when the next repainting or papering is to be done.

Use three (3) nails per Corner Guard. Locate one at the center and the other two at each end in the deep ring where the fancy turning begins. If the walls are plaster, center your nails. If you are working over the metal corner of a wallboard system, offset the nails approximately 1/2", all to the same side.

Hold the Corner Guard in place and drill three pilot holes with a drill bit slightly smaller than the nails. Drill completely through the Corner Bead. This will minimize the chances of splitting.

Nail in place. Set nails with a nail set, and fill the holes with wood putty or elastic wood. Touch up nail holes with paint or stain. ENJOY!
