Fuel for the city of neurons: Citicoline improves memory in healthy elderly adults

26 Oct.,2023

In this 12-week randomized controlled trial, 100 healthy older adults (average age of 64 years; 65% female) with AAMI (based on the US National Institutes of Health criteria[1]) took either 500 mg/day of citicoline or a placebo.

The primary outcome was the raw change in short-term spatial memory. The secondary outcomes were the raw changes in working and episodic memory, short-term verbal memory, composite memory (a calculated measure of overall memory function), and selective and sustained attention.

Safety was assessed by asking participants open-ended questions regarding adverse events at weeks 0, 6 and 12.
